What We've Accomplished
962 pairs of socks in 2013.
962 pairs of socks means many people in need will be a little warmer this winter, thanks to the Socks for Lansing drive. The Lansing City Rescue Mission received the donation on Dec. 11, 2013 and distributed socks at their shelters across the capital area.
The sock drive sparked after a Rizzi Designs employee asked the City Rescue Mission’s Director about their greatest winter need. The employee, Sarah Garner, was inspired by such a simple, basic need. She shared it with her co-workers – and brought it to her boss, Rochelle Rizzi.
“I could clearly see how important it was – not only to Sarah, but to the community. We’re told that nearly all the City Rescue Mission’s shelters are at capacity – and it’s staggering to think about the number of people in need,” said Rochelle Rizzi, owner and CEO of Rizzi Family of Businesses.
In 2013, Rizzi Designs and Old Town Marquee opened up as two collection points for donations. Later Impact89FM joined the effort to spread awareness and support this community service. Extending the deadline past Thanksgiving helped increase the numbers, as those getting an early start on holiday shopping were generous enough to purchases socks to contribute.
